GREENWOOD, Ind. – Fresno State sophomore point guard Haley Cavinder was named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District® 8 first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday morning.
Cavinder is the seventh Bulldog to earn All-District honors, and ninth all-time selection. The Gilbert, Ariz. native holds a 3.52 cumulative GPA in business. Of the 51 All-District selections this year, the Bulldog is one of only five underclassmen on the list.
This past season, Cavinder was just the third sophomore in Mountain West history to be named conference Player of the Year and was the league's first since 2004. She finished the season averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Cavinder was a three-time MW Player of the Week, was tabbed to the postseason All-MW Team for the second straight season and was selected to the WNIT Fort Worth All-Region Team.
For her career, she has 1,066 points, 444 rebounds and 222 assists. During the conference tournament Cavinder became the fastest player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, doing so in 57 games.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
As a first-team honoree, Cavinder is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors, which will be announced in late May.
