FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Director of Athletics Terry Tumey announced on Tuesday that Linda Garza will step down from her post as head coach of the Bulldog softball team.
"I would like to thank Coach Garza for her contributions to Fresno State and for her work to uphold our Bulldog tradition of championships," said Tumey. "She is a passionate coach who added another historic chapter to the legacy of our softball program and helped position us for success in the future. We wish her all the best."
Garza led the Fresno State softball program for five seasons (2017-2021) and amassed an overall record of 146-77.
Under her leadership, the Bulldogs advanced to two NCAA Regional tournaments and captured the program's 24th conference title. Garza recruited an array of talent, who earned multiple conference player, pitcher, and freshmen of the year awards, and received national recognition with 12 respective All-NFCA Pacific Regional performers.
"On the field, Fresno State is one of the storied programs on the West Coast, with the great honor of playing in Margie Wright Stadium," said Garza. "The fans and the players are amazing. I would like to thank Terry Tumey for this leadership opportunity and all of those who worked with me and supported my vision and leadership. This program is set up for success and I wish the current and future Bulldog players the best."
A national search for Fresno State's next head softball coach will begin immediately.
