'Dogs receive USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -Â The Fresno State volleyball team has received the United State Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the organization on Monday.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
It is the 'Dogs second straight season earning the award and the 10th selection in the last 12Â seasons dating back to the 2009-10 academic year.
The 2020-21 'Dogs were one of seven Mountain West programs to earn the honor along with Boise State, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming & Utah State.
A new record 243 NCAA Div. I women's programs earned the accolade this year after 227 programs earned the honor in 2019-20. In total, 1,275 collegiate and high school programs earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season.
Along with the team recognition, 12 Bulldogs were named Mountain West academic all-conference last week in Grace Doyle, Molly Eppright, Julia Handy, Kasey Purry, Rebecca Rendahl, Jocelyn Rodriguez, Lauren Sabbatini, Savanah Smith, Desiree Sukhov, Amilya Thompson, Moana To'oto'o & Mikayla Weiss.
In addition, Doyle, Eppright, Handy, Rendahl, Rodriguez, Smith, Sukhov & Weiss were honored as MW Scholar-Athletes for a cumulative GPA above 3.5.
The mission of the AVCA is to advance the sport of volleyball with AVCA coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development. The AVCA provides education to volleyball coaches, recognition of elite players and coaches, promotion of volleyball competitions throughout the world, and networking opportunities for volleyball products and services providers.
