Bertozzi earns MOP in fall finale

WACO, Texas - The Fresno State equestrian team put up a tough fight, but fell 11-7 at No. 8 Baylor on Friday afternoon, closing out the Bulldogs' fall slate. Fresno State finished its fall season winless, and opens up the spring season on Feb. 3-4, 2023 at the Student Horse Center.

Senior Ana Bertozzi was the fences Most Outstanding Performer of the meet, earning her first MOP in the event of the season. She now has one in each jumping seat event of the year.

How it Happened
The meet began with the teams tying in the fences, 2-2 with a tie. Bertozzi won her point on her 80-66 MOP ride over her opponent. Taylor Holsted scored the highest ride for the 'Dogs with her 8268 win in the fences. Elle Martin tied in her ride with an 80.

Baylor took the lead with a 3-1-1 victory in the flat. Martin won the lone point for the 'Dogs, defeating her opponent 73-71. Sara Tuck tied in her flat ride with a score of 79.

In the western events, Fresno State had the advantage in the horsemanship, defeating Baylor 3-2. Ella Storch and Emily Maul won their points. Storch scored a career-high 75 to her opponent's 74.5 and Maul scored her point on a 73-71.5 showing.

At the end of the horsemanship, Fresno State was within one point in the meet, only trailing 7-6. The Bulldogs won only one point in the reining by Julianne Kelley with a 70-69 edging.
