Fresno State defeats Baylor 12-6 on Senior Day
FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 Fresno State equestrian team took down No. 5 Baylor 12-6 in a Senior Day upset victory Friday afternoon at the Student Horse Center. Friday's win marked Fresno State's highest ranked win of the season.

The 'Dogs took home three Most Outstanding Performer honors in the Big 12 win - Taylor Holstead (flat), Kameron Thorn (horsemanship) and Hannah Hieber (reining). The 'Dogs have now won four-straight home meets in the series with Baylor.

Following the conclusion of the meet, Fresno State honored 11 seniors - Bailey Alexander, Hannah Buijs, Cecily Hayes, Brooklyn Moch, Lexee Padrick, Alexis Steele, Lizzie Stodden, Kameron Thorn, Madisen Torigiani, Anna Wegenast and Addison Welman.

How it happened
The Bulldogs and Bears tied 2-2 in the fences, with a tie from Grace Mathias. Senior Cecily Hayes picked up the first point of the event with an 81-71 ride against her opponent. Ana Bertozzi picked up the remaining Bulldog point, riding to an 88-76 win.

Fresno State continued its outstanding rides in the horsemanship, outscoring Baylor 4-1. Emily Maul, Alex Krebs, Brooklyn Moch and Thorn each earned their points. Maul extends her streak to five-straight wins, while Krebs has won four in a row and Thorn has scored three-straight wins. Thorn scored her second MOP of the season on a 76-74 ride.

At the break, Fresno State had a 6-2 advantage over Baylor.

The Bulldogs continued the western success with a 3-1-1 outing in the reining. Fresno State earned points from Bailey Alexander and Lexee Padrick, along with the MOP ride by Hieber. The junior Bulldog earned the MOP honor with a 72.5-72 edging of her opponent. Addison Welman tied in her ride with a 72.

Fresno State earned its most flat points of the spring season, outscoring Baylor 3-2 in the arena. Fresno State earned points by Cecily Hayes, Olivia Ferro and the MOP ride by Holstead. The MOP was won in a career-best 92 to her opponent's 91. Also in the event, Hayes set a new Fresno State program record with a 95 to her opponent's 93. Hayes surpassed the previous record of 94, which she set herself in the Spring of 2021.
