Ana Bertozzi is the 2022 Big 12 Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year
IRVING, Texas - Fresno State junior jumping seat rider Ana Bertozzi has been named the 2022 Big 12 Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Bertozzi is the first Bulldog to earn this honor since Fresno State joined the Big 12 in 2019. The winners of the awards are voted upon by the coaches of the respective sports across the conference.
Â
Bertozzi managed to maintain a 4.00 GPA while competing in 100 percent of the Bulldogs' meets this season. As an animal science major, with an emphasis in pre-veterinary studies, Bertozzi has secured back-to-back seasons as a first team Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
Â
In the arena this season, Bertozzi has earned six fences wins with one MOP and five flat wins.
Â
The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Every Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport with the winners selected by a vote of the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
Â
Bertozzi and the Bulldogs head to Ocala, Fla. for the 2022 National Equestrian Championship, hosted this week at the World Equestrian Center. More information on the national championship can be found here.
