'Dogs fall in quarterfinal

No. 1 Oklahoma State defeats No. 8 Fresno State, 12-8.
OCALA, Fla. - The No. 8 Fresno State equestrian team saw its season come to an end with a 12-8 loss to No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Equestrian Championship at the World Equestrian Center on Thursday.

The Bulldogs scored points in each event, highlighted by a 4-1 win in the horsemanship.

The meet began with the fences and horsemanship. Oklahoma State came out and took the fences, 4-1. The lone Bulldog point was earned by Olivia Ferro in a 245-238 win over Hope King.

Fresno State had its best performance of the day in the horsemanship, evening the score in the meet with a 4-1 win in the event. The Bulldogs earned points by Alex Krebs, Hannah Buijs, Kameron Thorn and Brooklyn Moch. Krebs secured her point with a 211.5-209 win. Buijs won the following point with a 224.5 to her opponent's 221. Thorn won the final collegiate point of her career, and secured her first 10-win season, with a 219.5-211 ride over her opponent. Moch closed things out with a 218.5 to her opponent's 203.

The Bulldogs stayed in it with two points won in the flat. Senior Cecily Hayes (208-170) and junior Ana Bertozzi (235-234.5) won the points in the flat, keeping Fresno State in swinging position for the win.

Reining went the way of the Cowgirls with the Bulldogs earning only one point with a 214.5-211.5 ride by senior Lexee Padrick.

Fresno State's season ends with an overall 6-11 record, with four wins over nationally-ranked programs.
