FRESNO, Calif. – Finalizing its 2022 signing class, Fresno State women's basketball added Spanish guard Maria Doreste. She is the fifth international to join the Bulldogs this offseason.
"We are excited to sign our program's first Spanish player who brings a savviness to the guard spot," head coach Jaime White said. "Maria is a national team level player who has a nice 3-point shot and anticipates well on defense. She will only continue to improve at our level."
The 5-foot-8 guard played this season with CB Islas Canarias, averaging 12.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists per game. Her state selection teams have won national championships the past two years, and earned third in 2018, while her teams have also won eight state championships during her career. In 2021, she was named the best point guard during the Gran Canaria Global Jam tournament.
Doreste saw her first top level playing experience come when she was just 15 years old. That year, she was also called into the Spanish national team system with the U17s.
