'Dogs sweep The Citadel to close play at COFC Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Fresno State volleyball team closed out the College of Charleston Classic on Saturday morning sweeping The Citadel at TD Arena.
Behind 13 kills from Ella Rud, Fresno State (1-2) took the sweep over the Bulldogs, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 to complete their first victory of 2022.
How It Happened
A tight opening set saw 13 ties with the final one being at 22 apiece before the 'Dogs finished out the set with a bang with three straight points.
Closing out the set with back-to-back kills from Grace Doyle, the Bulldogs continued the strong start in the second set getting off to a 4-0 start. Holding a slim 17-16 lead, the 'Dogs wrapped up the set on an 8-2 run getting kills from Kasey Purry and Addison Haluska for a two-set lead.
Finishing the match out strong in the third set, the 'Dogs broke open a one-point lead with a 10-3 run to take a 21-13 advantage after a kill by Lauren Sabbatini. A 4-0 run by The Citadel got the Bulldogs back within four and after getting as close as three, a kill by Rud sealed the sweep for Fresno State.

The Bulldogs return home to host the Fresno State Invitational presented by Axis Hotel Group on Friday and Saturday at the Save Mart Center.

Notes
- It was the first-ever meeting against The Citadel for the Bulldogs and third against a Southern Conference opponent joining Furman (1-0) and Western Carolina (1-0).
- It is the second straight season the 'Dogs first win of the season was a sweep after also sweeping CSUN for the first victory of 2021.
- The Bulldogs finished with 44 digs with five different 'Dogs recording seven or more apiece.
- Doyle was named to the College of Charleston Classic All-Tournament Team totaling 41 kills, 12 blocks, five service aces, three digs and two assists over the three matches.
