FRESNO, Calif. – Outscored 48-15 from the 3-point line, Fresno State dropped its regular-season finale to New Mexico, 88-68, at the Save Mart Center. The 'Dogs were outshot 64.0-35.7 percent from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs were led by their five seniors who combined to score all but five of the team's five points. Imani Lacy led the 'Dogs with a season-high 19 points. New Mexico had four players in double figures, paced LaTascya Duff's 27 points.
How It Happened
Sparked by a triple from Amiee Book that was followed by a steal and runout and-one from Keely Brown, Fresno State turned a one-point deficit at 4:17 in the first quarter into an 11-point lead in three minutes through a 14-2 run. A 3 from Yanina Todorova late in the period gave the 'Dogs a 28-16 lead after one after they shot a blistering 57.9 percent from the field. The Bulldogs connected on nine of their last 11 shots in the period.
Todorova got the first two buckets of the second to keep the lead at 12 but after missing their next five shots, the lead was gone. New Mexico caught fire and hit five 3-pointers and got a layup during a 17-0 stretch to go up 37-32 with 4:30 left in the half. Book ended the drought with her third triple of the half but Fresno State would still trail by five, 44-39.
The Lobos extended their lead to 12 by the end of the third on a 3 by LaTascya Duff at the buzzer. Fresno State was unable to get the deficit back under double digits in the fourth being outscored by eight.
