FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Fresno State softball team lost 7-6 in eight innings to the Colorado State Rams on Friday at Ram Field.
Fresno State (20-26, 9-8 Mountain West) hit three home runs and didn't strike out in the windy game, which opened a three-game weekend series on the campus of Colorado State (24-17, 8-8 MW).
But the Bulldogs couldn't overcome the Rams' 14 hits, which included a 5-for-12 clip (.417) with two outs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, Emma Martinez was hit by a pitch and later came around to score on Juliana Wilson's RBI grounder to the right side of the infield for an early 1-0 lead on the Rams.
CSU evened the tilt at 1-1 with a run in the second, and then each team scored three times in the fourth, which was highlighted by Alesia Denby and Vanessa M. Hernandez launching back-to-back moonshot home runs.
Fresno State freshman catcher Kennedy Bunker then hit her first home run as a Bulldog, which was a majestic two-run shot to left field in the top of the sixth. CSU answered with a pair in the bottom half of the frame to make it 6-6 after six.
After a clean seventh inning, the Rams used a two-out walk-off single back up the middle to capture the victory.
