'Dogs drop pair at Bulldog Brawl

INDIANAPOLIS – The Fresno State Volleyball team fell to UC San Diego and Butler on opening day of the Butler Bulldog Brawl to open the 2023 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Match 1: Fresno State vs. UC San Diego
The Bulldogs dropped the first set by a 25-9 deficit to UC San Diego. The 'Dogs rallied back in the second set, going on a 13-5 run before dropping the set 25-23. Fresno State had a dominant performance in the third set, outscoring the Tritons 25-18, but fell behind early in set four before going on a last-minute run to make it a nail-biter finish. The Bulldogs dropped the deciding set 25-23, falling 3-1 overall.
Match 2: Battle of the Bulldogs • Fresno State at Butler
Fresno State and Butler were neck and neck through the first set, with no more than a four-point deficit before the Dogs fell 32-30. The matchup stayed tight through the second set with the lead being passed back and forth from Bulldog to Bulldog, eventually leaving Butler on top, 25-22. Fresno State outplayed Butler in the third set, outscoring them 25-17. The Bulldogs stayed hot on both sides of the court through the final set, but Butler was able to advance past Fresno State to win the match 3-1 with a 25-22 set.

- Addison Haluska led the 'Dogs in kill count in the first match with 15.
- Grace Doyle and Kasey Purry led with three block assists each against the Tritons in match one.
- Fresno State never trailed by more than four points against Butler.
- Ella Rud and Grace Doyle each had 16 kills against Butler.
