'Dogs fall to the Wolfpack in Reno

RENO, Nev. -- Despite holding the lead for sixty-two percent of the game, Fresno State found themselves fighting for a win down to the wire, falling in the final seconds in Reno, 63-62.Â
Mia Jacobs would lead the Bulldogs recording double digits (12) through the first seventeen minutes of regulation play off her fourth three-pointer of the game. Jacobs tallied six three-pointers by end with her final three coming in the final three seconds, keeping the Bulldogs within one. Â Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Fresno State gets on the ball first, Jacobs puts up back-to-back threes getting the Bulldogs on an 8-2 run to start the game. Bulldogs started strong keeping the Wolf pack at bay with a hold on the lead. Two minutes of scoreless play by Nevada kept the 'Dogs up to finish the first quarter. Bulldogs close the first on a 7-0 run with a three-pointer by Taija Sta. Maria gave the 'Dogs a ten-point lead, 22-12.Â
Fresno State wrapped up the first ten shooting 57% from the field and the three, Jacobs shot 3-of-4 (75%) from the arc.Â
Bulldogs would push a ten-point lead to start the second to their largest lead of the game 15+. 'Dogs started on a high note racking up three 3-pointers in the first five minutes, the final three by Fox gave Fresno State their largest lead of the night at 15 points, 34-19. The last few minutes would be all Nevada, as they closed in on the lead bringing it within five. A last minute shot from downtown by Maria Konstaninidou gives the 'Dogs an eight point lead into the half.Â
Fresno State started the third on a slow note, missing the net for the first four minutes of play. Nevada responded with a strong second half outscoring Fresno State 33-24. The Wolf pack would see their first chance at the lead to start the third on an 7-0 run. Even with the lead in the last half, Nevada didn't see a lead larger than six in the final minute and a half. A minute to go, the 'Dogs take a trip to the line as Sta. Maria goes 2-of-2 followed by a deep shot from the three by Fox. Nevada makes good on the final shot taking the lead to three, 50-47. All the action came in the final four minutes of the game. As Jacobs' scored Fresno State's first basket from the field on a layup to take a short one-point lead. With 15 seconds to go Jacobs puts a second chance three into the net, 'Dogs within two. A shooting foul brings Nevada back to the line (2-2) with 12 seconds left giving the 'Dogs tight chance to make a play. Quick on her feet, Jacobs launches her sixth 3-pointer of the night for a one point game. Unable to take the ball back 'Dogs fall to the Wolf pack in the final seconds.Â
