FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's tennis team travels up north to Berkeley and Moraga, Calif. for the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, beginning Friday, Oct. 11. The Northwest Regional main host site will be the University of California, Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Complex with overflow matches to be played at Saint Mary's Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga.Â
BULLDOG BONESÂ
- Fresno State travels up north to Berkeley/ Moraga for the ITA Northwest Regionals ChampionshipÂ
- There will be 13 regional championships for DI women across the weekendÂ
- Bulldogs have another chance to earn an automatic qualifying spot for the NCAA Individual tournament, Nov. 19-24 hosted by Baylor UniversityÂ
- Four Bulldogs are entered in the lineup for this weekend, Yinglak Jittakoat, Matlide Magrini, Eliza Dunbar and Sofia Pizzoni
- All four 'Dogs are looking at their second tournament this fall seasonÂ
- With three tournaments down each Bulldog has earned at least one singles and doubles winÂ
DOUBLE TROUBLEÂ
No. 1 doubles pairing Matilde Magrini and Yinglak Jittakoat will play their first doubles match together since Oct, 14, 2023. This weekend the pair will take the No. 8 in the doubles main draw earning a bye in the round of 64.Â
Last season the pair saw a No. 23 ITA preseason doubles ranking (Sept. 5, 2023), the highest ranking in program history. As a pair the two hold a 19-10 record at the top flight.Â
LINEUPÂ
This weekend's tournament features Matilde Magrini, Yinglak Jittakoat, Sofia Pizzoni and Eliza Dunbar. Bulldogs will enter two singles players for qualifying rounds (Pizzoni & Dunbar) and two doubles pairs for the main draw (Magrini/Jittakoat & Dunbar/Pizzoni)
ITA Northwest Regional ChampionshipÂ
The University of California, Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Complex will be the main host site for the weekend with overflow matches to be played at Saint Mary's Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga.Â
In Division I, regional doubles champions and finalists and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships. Each of the 2024 ITA Men's and Women's Division I Regional Championships will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: Minimum of 64 Main Draw, Minimum of 64 Qualifying) (Doubles: Minimum of 32 Main Draw, Minimum of 32 Qualifying). From this, the two singles finalists from each region (26) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. Meanwhile, the doubles champion from each region (13) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship. Selection criteria and acceptable draw size variations for each of the 2024 Men's and Women's Regional Championships will be released later this season.
