1/25/2025 7:41:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. – Tied with a minute remaining, a late 3-pointer from Colorado State's Kyan Evans gave the Rams a 69-64 win over Fresno State on Saturday evening at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State was outscored 7-0 during the final 2:28 of the game. It was the Bulldogs' second defeat in its last three home games when they led with two-and-a-half minutes to play.
Alex Crawford posted a team-high 20 points for the 'Dogs, recording his fourth 20-point game in his last six contests. The junior also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds. Nique Clifford scored a game-high 24 points for the Rams. He also led CSU in rebounds (8), assists (7) and steals (2).
How It Happened
Knocking down two of its first four shots from deep, Fresno State had an early 6-5 lead after three minutes but Colorado State scored the next five.
With the Rams leading by four, Alex Crawford regained the lead for the 'Dogs with 12:21 on the clock after a quick five points. Nique Clifford responded for CSU with seven unanswered. As the run moved to 9-0, Fresno State called a timeout trailing 21-13 with 9:52 to play in the half.
Out of the stoppage the Bulldogs countered with a 6-0 spurt, seeing Crawford sink his second 3-pointer of the half. CSU answered right back with the next five to go back up seven. Crawford hit the offensive glass on the next possession and went back up to cut the deficit back to five. But the Rams had answers again. A block by Elijah Price ended up in the hands of Clifford who knocked down an open three with 5:00 on the clock. A minute later, after a bucket from Price, Bowen Born hit one of his own.
With three-and-half to go, Crawford's third triple of the half ignited an 8-1 stretch to end the half. The final points came off a three-point play from Price. Fresno State trailed 33-31 at the half behind Crawford's 13 points, the junior's most points in a first half this season.
CSU came out with the first five of the half before Jalen Weaver dropped in a floater with three minutes gone. After a bucket from Kyan Evans at the other end, Zaon Collins got hot from outside, hitting a pair on back-to-back possessions to pull the 'Dogs with one at 40-39.
Sent to the line after a defensive stop, Weaver sank both to give the 'Dogs their first lead since 12:21 in the first half.
With under 10 minutes to play, Colorado State saw a swing go in its favor as a missed 3-point attempt from Collins at one end and Jalen Lake hit one at the other end to put CSU up 51-47. Weaver had an answer though, fighting through traffic for an and-one. Lake followed with another look from the corner but it was off the mark. The result was Crawford tying the game up at 53-all after an and-one.
Collins then got a hand on a Colorado State pass near midcourt. The point guard tipped the ball to himself and laid it up and in on the break.
A triple on the right wing from Jasir Tremble and a layup from Collins gave the 'Dogs a 60-55 lead with 5:47 to play. They were the Bulldogs fourth and fifth straight made field goals, but they would be the team's last of the game.
The Rams tied game up with three minutes to play with five unanswered points. Price regained the lead for the 'Dogs with two at the line as the redshirt freshman went 7-of-7 on the evening at the stripe.
Colorado State finished the game scoring the final seven points. Evans knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer in a tie game (64-64) for the Rams with 52 seconds remaining.
