Bulldogs hit fifth conference win in Reno
1/29/2025 4:40:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RENO, Nev. - Fresno State played for their first win at Lawlor Events Center since 2019 in front of a sold out crowd of 10,689 elementary school students on Wednesday morning, 65-59.Â
There was no stopping this Aussie on the court, as Mia Jacobs grabbed her 13th double-double this season with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Mariah Elohim totaled for 13 on the day, 11 of which came in the third quarter.Â
Fresno State earned their fourth road win this season and grabbed back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2021. Bulldogs also earned back-to-back wins in arenas where they dropped the last three meetings.Â
How it happenedÂ
Nevada started quick right out of the gate on a 6-0 start. Bulldogs looked to keep pace with Jacobs landing the first basket for the 'Dogs on a layup. A 9-5 run showed good effort from the 'Dogs, hitting well from the field (4-of-4) to trail by two with 2:30 to go, 13-11. Rayna Wliiams hit the first tie of the morning from inside the paint on a layup, 13-13. Maria Konstantinidou was on the three-point play for the Bulldogs to tie it up with two seconds to go, 16-16. A foul on Williams sent Nevada's Izzy Sullivan to the charity stripe (3-of-3) to build an easy three point advantage over Fresno, 19-16. Bulldogs trailed by as many as six in the first quarter.Â
Nevada hit a 7-0 scoring run as the Bulldogs slumped in a near three minute scoring drought. Bulldogs were brought back with Jacobs sparking a 7-0 scoring run. Jacobs hit a shot from downtown as Holly Griffiths landed in back-to-back shots from inside the paint to get within one, 26-25. Nevada responded with their own 7-0 spurt to hold an eight point lead with a minute to go. Jacobs hit the mark for one more three-pointer to trail by four going into the half, 33-29.
Mariah Elohim erupted for the Bulldogs in the third quarter and dropped 11 points off three 3PFGs. Kylee Fox hit a solo 3-0 run. The first lead of the night came after Elohim's third three of the quarter, 44-42. Nevada quickly pulled back the lead after another six points. Bulldogs trailed by four going into the final ten, 48-44.Â
It was a high pressure final period that saw three lead changes and two ties. Fresno State started with a 5-0 run with another three-pointer from the hands of Jacobs and a layup from Danae Powell. It was all in the final three minutes as another tie came around, 57-57. From there on, the lead belonged to Fresno State. Saga Ukkonen made the jumper to start the 8-2 run that called the game. Jacobs 20 piece came in that run with her fourth three-pointer of the night.Â
