Heidbreder drops career-high 33 in win over New Orleans
11/21/2025 10:53:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's basketball team wrapped up its opening home stand, defeating New Orleans 85-76 in front of a season's best crowd at the Save Mart Center.
The Bulldogs moved to 5–2 on the season behind a career night from Jake Heidbreder, who poured in 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including four three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State fell behind early as New Orleans used transition scoring to take the lead. The Privateers led multiple times in the opening minutes, but momentum shifted for the Bulldogs when New Orleans' Abass was charged with a flagrant two technical foul for biting Fresno State's Zaon Collins in the arm, and was ejected from the game just over the five-minute mark.
Jake Heidbreder provided the early spark for Fresno State. The senior guard knocked down three first-half threes, two of them coming in a 90-second span, to erase the deficit and swing momentum the Bulldogs' way. A dunk from Gasper Kocevar and a fastbreak finish from DJ Stickman helped Fresno State push ahead.
The Bulldogs held on to a tight lead down the stretch of the first half and went into the locker room up 41–37.
Out of halftime, Fresno State established control. Heidbreder scored early in the second half to extend the lead, and the Bulldogs stretched the margin to double digits behind efficient half-court execution and a pair of threes from Heidbreder and DeShawn Gory. Collins orchestrated the offense, piling up assists and controlling tempo while also securing a team-high 10 rebounds.
New Orleans made several pushes late, but Fresno State consistently responded. Key defensive rebounds, strong possessions in the paint from Kocevar and Jacques-Wilson, and late free throws allowed the Bulldogs to close out the game and keep the lead intact for the entire second half.
The Bulldogs shot 51% in the second half, scoring 20 points in the paint after the break to finish off the 85–76 win.
