2/15/2025 9:38:00 PM | Softball
Fresno State (3-4) was outhit by UCSB (6-3) 11-9 in the contest. Junior Natalie Elias led the Bulldogs at the plate going 3-for-4, tying her season high.
Junior right-handed pitcher Key-annah Campbell-Pu'a started the game, with three Bulldogs coming in for relief. Junior left-hander Serayah Neiss earned her second win of the season, pitching 3.1 innings and recording four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Campbell-Pu'a retired the Gauchos in order to start the game, the pitching woes began as UCSB cycled through three pitchers in the bottom of the frame. The Bulldogs scored five runs on three hits and three walks to take a quick 5-0 lead.
The Gauchos took the lead with a solo home run to start the second inning. Fresno State struggled in the circle, making two pitching changes in the fourth. UCSB capitalized, pushing across four runs on three hits to make it a one-score game. Â
Fresno State bounced back offensively in the sixth inning. Marissa Montelongo drew a leadoff walk, and Elias followed with a single, putting two runners on base. Kennedy Bunker then belted a double, bringing them both in. Lauren Almeida crushed a triple in the next at-bat to drive in another run. Alyssa Rebolledo capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to score the final run of the game.
The Gauchos had two hits in the top of the inning, but Neiss and the defense stranded the runners.
