'Dogs edged by Huskies 6-4

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team fell to Washington 6-4 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic finale.
The Bulldogs (7-6) were outhit by the Huskies (8-7) 9-6 in the contest. Junior Kennedy Bunker went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. In the circle, Serayah Neiss and Faith Jordan split innings, both dishing four strikeouts apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Natalie Elias led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on an error. Kealani Nitta followed with a bunt single, moving Elias to third, then stole second base. With two runners in scoring position, Madison Rey executed a sacrifice bunt to drive in the first run. Bunker then singled through the left side, plating Nitta for the second run.
Washington evened the score in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run. The Huskies took a 4-2 lead in the following inning, starting with a leadoff homer and then adding a run with a sacrifice fly.
The 'Dogs answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to even the score at 4-4. Rey singled up the middle, and Bunker followed with her first home run of the season, bringing two runs across.
Washington drew a leadoff walk to begin the seventh inning, then hit their third home run of the game to take a 6-4 lead.
The 'Dogs were retired in order in the bottom of the frame.
