SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team returns home with a win after Sofia Pizzoni clinched the win on Sunday afternoon at Ronca Tennis Center, 4-3.Â
How it happenedÂ
Fresno State saw a hard battle for the doubles point. Cal Poly claimed the first game on court two with Eliza Dunbar and Paulina Montiel falling six-games to one on court two. Andjela Lopicic and Klara Vukicevic defeated MacCallum/Leather, 6-4 on court three. Court one went into a tie breaker that Matilde Magrini and Yinglak Jittakoat played the best of. The pair won with a 7-5 tiebreak for the doubles point.Â
Easy goes for Jittakoat, who was the first to finish. The senior allowed Dunkle one game in the first set and played a clean sweep second set (6-1, 6-0). Bulldogs led 2-0 before the Mustangs claimed their first point at No. 5 singles. Montiel was swept by MacCallum in the first set (0-6) and attempted for a third set comeback playing for the best of a second set tiebreak but fell, 7-5. Magrini pushed the lead back up with a win over Buntrock at No. 1, 6-1, 7-5.Â
Cal Poly tied it up taking the next two points. Lopicic dropped both sets to Mosse (5-7, 2-6) on court four and Dunbar fell to Lynch in a tense three set match (2-6, 7-5, 4-6) on court six. Pizzoni clinched the win for the Bulldogs in a third set tie break, 7(7)- 6(5). The junior won the first set 6-3 and Ozerets responded with a 6-1 second set.
