FRESNO, Calif. – Cierra Jackson claimed her second hammer win of the season with a new personal best on Friday evening to open the West Coast Relays. The Bulldogs went 1-2-3 in the women's competition.
Just missing 60 meters on her second attempt, Jackson jumped into the lead on her fifth attempt, launching a toss that measured 65.89m/216-2. Not only did it give the senior the win but the mark moved her up to No. 3 all-time at Fresno State.
Heading into the weekend, only five hammer throwers across the country had marks over 65 meters this season.
Finishing behind Jackson was Emma Harper (57.40m/188-4) and Maria Lawson (56.88m/186-7). Lawson's second attempt was more than three meters beyond her previous personal record.
The West Coast Relays will move to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. PT with the men's javelin and women's long jump.
