3/8/2025 8:12:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SAN JOSE, Calif. – With six available players, Fresno State was unable to close both halves on the road on Saturday, falling to San Jose State 92-68 at Provident Credit Union Event Center. The Bulldogs were outscored by a combined 36-14 during the final five minutes of the first and seven minutes of the second.
Jasir Tremble had a season-high 22 points to lead Fresno State. The Spartans had four in double figures compared to three for the 'Dogs. SJSU was paced by a career-high 30 points from Donovan Yap.
Fresno State was outscored by 21 points from the 3-point line and was outrebounded by 17 (45-28).
How It Happened
Playing within four points during the opening eight minutes, Fresno State grabbed its first lead of the afternoon at 13-12 on a 3-pointer in transition from Zaon Collins.
Trailing by six with under nine minutes left in the half, Jasir Tremble and Alex Crawford began to bring the 'Dogs back with each getting four during a 10-4 stretch. Tremble capped it off by tracking down a loose ball, collapsing the defense and finding Crawford on the backside for an open dunk that forced San Jose State to call a timeout with the score at 28-all.
After the stoppage, the Spartans ended the half with a 14-4 run with eight points coming from Donovan Yap. Tremble got a layup to go at the buzzer, but it was waved off after a review, leaving Fresno State heading to the locker room with its largest deficit of the half at 42-32.
Five minutes into the second, the Bulldogs' deficit ballooned to 16 through an 8-0 SJSU run that ended with a free throw from Elijah Price.
Tremble began to pull the 'Dogs back through a 3-pointer, followed by a steal that turned into points at the line for Collins. That stretch quickly trimmed the deficit to 57-46 with 12:37 on the clock. But after a missed put back that could have brought it to single digits, the Spartans countered back with four. Two minutes later, their lead grew back up to 18.
Despite Brian Amuneke and Price picking up their fourth fouls, the 'Dogs would not go quietly. Fresno State took eight of the next 10 points. A layup from Collins brought the Bulldogs to within 12 at 70-58 at the under-eight media timeout.
Like the first half, Fresno State began to falter as the half wore on and was outscored 22-10 during the remaining seven minutes.
