'Dogs fall to Wildcats in straight sets

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to Arizona on Sunday afternoon at McKale Center, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20. The loss moves the Bulldogs to 2-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 3-0.
Arizona came out hot in the first set, building an early 5-0 lead. Fresno State rallied midway through the frame, with Addison Haluska and Jenna Legault sparking a run to bring the Bulldogs within two at 16-14. The Wildcats, however, closed strong with key kills to secure the 25-20 win.
The second set saw Arizona take control behind its serving, tallying five aces in the frame. Haluska and Alivia Schneider provided offense for Fresno State, but Arizona capitalized on Bulldog errors and used a balanced attack to pull away late for a 25-16 victory.
Fresno State put up its strongest fight in the final set, trading points with Arizona through five ties and even holding a brief lead. Haluska paced the Bulldogs with a strong attack while Gabby Lombardi and Olivia Lombardi set the table. Still, Arizona's offensive efficiency proved the difference as late kills closed out the sweep, 25-20.
