IRVINE, Calif. – Fresno State dropped a three-set battle to Penn on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center, falling 25-21, 27-25, 25-20. The Bulldogs move to 2-4 on the season, while the Quakers even their record at 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out swinging behind Addison Haluska and Jenna Legault, who combined for eight kills in the set. The Bulldogs held leads early, but Penn's balanced offense pushed the Quakers in front late. A kill from Penn sealed the opener for the Quakers, 25-21.
The second frame was the tightest of the match, featuring 16 ties and multiple lead changes. Fresno State went on a late surge with key kills from Legault and Haluska, tying the score at 24. Penn answered with consecutive kills to edge out the Bulldogs, 27-25, and take a two-set lead.
The Bulldogs again started strong, with freshman Lalelei Hall providing a spark off the bench and Legault continuing her efficient hitting. However, Penn's offense proved too steady. The Quakers closed on a 6-3 run to finish the sweep.
