FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Athletics, in collaboration with the City of Fresno, is excited to announce the return of the "Return to Selland" game for the 2026-27 men's basketball season. Following last season's highly anticipated return to the historic venue, the Bulldogs will once again head downtown to face Alabama State on Friday, Nov. 20.
The Return to Selland game celebrates the rich history of Fresno State basketball while reconnecting the program with one of its most iconic venues. After bringing Bulldog basketball back to Selland Arena for the first time in 16 years last season, Fresno State looks to build on the excitement and give the Red Wave another opportunity to experience the atmosphere that helped shape the program.
"Some of the greatest moments in Fresno State basketball history happened inside Selland Arena, and we want a new generation of Bulldog fans to experience that same energy," said Director of Athletics Garrett Klassy. "Last year's return reminded us just how special this building is to our community. We're excited to bring the Red Wave back downtown, celebrate our basketball tradition, and continue building something that Fresno can look forward to every year."
The Return to Selland is more than a basketball game. It's an opportunity to bring generations of Bulldog fans together in the heart of downtown Fresno, recreate the electric atmosphere that made Selland Arena legendary, and introduce a new generation to one of the program's most storied venues.
"There's something special about playing basketball at Selland Arena," said head coach Vance Walberg. "The history in that building and the connection it has to our fans make it a unique experience. We're excited to have another opportunity to play downtown, embrace that tradition and put on a great show for the Red Wave."
Selland Arena served as the home of Fresno State basketball from 1966 through 2003, hosting some of the most memorable moments in program history, from the electric "Grant's Tomb" sellout streak of the early 1980s under Boyd Grant to the 2000 Western Athletic Conference Championship under legendary head coach Jerry Tarkanian.
Fresno State's last full season at Selland Arena was 2002-03, before the team transitioned to the Save Mart Center. During their time downtown, the Bulldogs compiled an impressive 390-135 record at Selland, highlighted by 49 consecutive sellouts and some of the most passionate crowds in the West.
After a 16-year absence, Fresno State returned to Selland Arena for only the second time on Nov. 30, 2025, hosting CSU Bakersfield in a special nonconference matchup. This season's meeting with Alabama State marks the second consecutive year the Bulldogs will take the court at their former home.
