Bulldogs sit fourth with two podium finishes after first day of MWC

HOUSTON - The Fresno State swim and dive team sits in fourth place after the first day of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships with 201 points.
Bulldogs' were pushed into the top-five team standings after two podium finishes, both events sporting new program record times. Aliz Kalmar earned the first medal for Fresno State in the 200 IM finishing third. The 400 medley relay featuring Mackenzie Miller Lung, Hayely Oke, Ryley Clark and Jenna Pullkken matched with a third place finish and new record time of 3:33.76.
How it happened
Fresno State opened the morning with a strong showing with 10 Bulldogs qualifying into the night's finals session. Fresno State saw a team high five athletes qualifying into the 200 IM with Ryley Clark and Kalmar placing themselves in the championship heat. Freshman 'Dogs Caroline Grimsley and Oke made their first finals appearance on Wednesday night. Grimsley had a spot in the bonus final of the 500 freestyle and Oke in the consolation of the 50 freestyle.
Riley Baldwin dropped over 2.4 seconds in the 500 freestyle to take third place in the bonus heat, Grimsley touched fourth places' later for seventh. Pulkkinen and Oke represented the Bulldogs in the 50 freestyle for tenth and eleventh place overall.
Kalmar's 200 IM time of 1:58.63, was good enough to set a new program record and secure the third place finish. Clark touched for fifth on a new personal best of 1:59.01.
The 400 medley ended a thrilling opening night as Fresno State and San Diego State touched within hundreds of seconds of each other. Clark joined the relay team of Miller Lung, Oke and Pulkkinen to take third, dropping three seconds from their seed time. The relay team shedded 3.08 seconds to set a new record of 3:33.76.
In the diving well, Natalia Bedolla managed to hang within the top-ten throughout prelims. Bedolla finished the opening round in sixth (273.85). Grace Ally dove well but took 25th (215.65) in the event and Parker Connor finished in 30th (207.60). The senior would then go on to best her place from last year finishing the event in 5th overall with a score of 308.00.
