Bulldogs drop road opener to No. 2 Texas Tech

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.- The Fresno State softball team dropped their first road game of the season against No. 2 Texas Tech on Thursday. The Bulldogs were defeated by the Red Raiders 12-2 at Big League Dreams Complex in their first game at the Mary Nutter Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State opened the top of the first with two on and no outs before Jamie Hicks lined a single up the middle to put the 'Dogs in front 1-0. Natalie Elias tacked on another run for the Bulldogs shortly after, scoring from third when Jamie Hicks was caught stealing from first.Â
Texas Tech responded in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit in half to make it a 2-1 ballgame before bringing the game even at two in the following inning with a solo shot to deep center field.
The Red Raiders broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning. Holding a one-run lead, Texas Tech plated across nine runs with the help of three extra-base hits and four walks. Fresno State went down in order in the top of the fifth, as No. 2 Texas Tech got the win and handed the Bulldogs their first loss on the road this season.Â
