Bulldogs fall to Lopes in Midweek contest

How it happenedÂ
Grand Canyon opened with a 7-0 run. Fresno State got on the board with a trip at the line. Emilia Long put up the first field goal of the night with a deep three, 10-4. Danae Powell slipped through traffic for a layup. Bulldogs' managed to hold the Lopes from the basket for the three minutes, while getting another two shots from the line. Lopes' final basket set them up seven over the Bulldogs, 19-12.Â
Fresno State's offense stalled, managing five points in the period as Grand Canyon extended the lead to 32-17 at halftime. Djessira Diawara saw three of those points, while Avery Watkins earned the final two.Â
 Bulldogs' made their push after halftime, with a 19-9 period. Powell owned nine while Long produced six in the period. Long scored inside early and Fresno State strung together three steals in the period to fuel the comeback. Powell owned all of the 7-0 run to break down the double-figure deficit. Long added six points on the period, sparingly with a trip at the line and two field goals. Fresno State battled back from a 15-point deficit to sit as close as five by the end of the quarter, 41-36.Â
From the buzzer beater at the end of the third, Fresno State closed to 42-40 on Long's fast-break layup off a turnover. The Lopes responded with a run to create separation. Fresno State saw more opportunities at the charity stripe, while the Lopes finished with late transition baskets to close out, 57-42.Â
