Bulldogs open NCAA with 100 breaststroke

Miller Lung places 15th in 100 breast, Kalmar posts strong swim
ATLANTA - Fresno State swimmers Mackenzie Miller Lung and Aliz Kalmar competed in their first event of the weekend in the 100 breaststroke at McAuley Aquatics Center on Thursday morning.Â
Kalmar got off to a strong start as the first swimmer to touch in heat two with a time of 59.88. Through 75-yards of the race, Kalmar was holding for sixth place among the field on a 43.94 split. Kalmar picked up the pace on the final 25-yards (15.94), to out touch the five swimmers in front of her.Â
The Central Valley native was out in a 27.33 in the opening 50-yards to come off third from the turn. A 31.56 back half placed the senior in fifth in the heat with a time of 58.89. Miller Lung placed 15th in the event earning her All-American Honorable Mention.Â
With the new championship format, the top eight swimmers qualify into the finals session, all finalists in the event posted a time of 57.95 or faster with Tennessee's Siroky as the top seed with a 56.93.Â
