Four Bulldogs named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team had four players named to the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar team for the 2025-2026 season, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Monday.

Jake Bettencourt, Jaden Hunter, Zack Tarter, and Von Wasson were the four Bulldogs to be awarded this distinction, as Fresno State saw four players named to the Cobalt All-America Scholar Team for the third consecutive season.

To be eligible for a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, possess a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Bettencourt received his first Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors after competing in seven tournaments while posting a 74.1 stroke average. In his final season with the Bulldogs, Bettencourt recorded a career-best 7th place finish at the Watney Invitational while shooting career-low rounds of 3-under 69 at the Watney Invitational and the Visit Stockton Invitational.

Hunter was named to the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar Team for the second consecutive year. The senior competed in all 11 tournaments for the Bulldogs, recorded a 72.0 stroke average, and tallied four top-20 finishes and 3 top-15 finishes during the 2025-26 season. Hunter recorded a career-best seventh place finish at the Watney Invitational while shooting season-low rounds of 4-under 68 at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational and the 2026 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship.

Zack Tarter, a first time recipient, transferred to Fresno State from UC Davis and posted a 73.6 scoring average after competing in all 11 tournaments during the 2025-26 season. In Fresno State's second tournament of the year, Tarter recorded a seventh place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he shot 6-under 210.

Wasson was also named a Cobalt All-America Scholar for the first time in his collegiate career. He finished his first season at Fresno State with a 73.1 scoring average through 11 tournaments after transferring from UC Riverside. The sophomore opened the season by posting season-low rounds of 3-under 69 in back-to-back tournaments, including the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate where he collected a season-best seventh place finish.
