FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women’s head basketball coach Jaime White announced the signing of transfer Jordanna Porter. She will sit out the 2016-17 season per NCAA transfer rules and have three years of eligibility remaining.
“We are very excited about adding Jordanna to the Bulldog family,” White said. “She brings great physicality and Pac-12 experience that will impact us immediately. She has a great 3-point shot that fits well in our offense. Jordanna is a high character person who has a great work ethic that is contagious.”
Porter, a 5-foot-11 wing player, appeared in five games during her freshman season at Utah, scoring the first points and first rebound of her collegiate career against Montana State on March 18. Prior to her only season in Salt Lake City, the Killeen, Texas product was a three-time All-District and All-Area honoree and led Ellison High School to the 6A Region II District 12 title as a senior. A year earlier, she helped her team qualify for the District 8-5A championships under Coach of the Year Sherry McKinnon after averaging 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Porter played AAU basketball for Team Xpress, one of the nation's top teams coached by Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil. The Hall of Fame coach called Porter “a jack-of-all-trades do-it-all type of player and referred to her as 'Swiss,' like a Swiss Army knife.”
“She can play any position we needed her to play from 2 through 5,” Davis-Wrightsil said. “She shoots the ball from deep, is a crafty finisher around the basket with both hands, can pull up the mid-range jump shot. She has a strong body, a high IQ, and is hardworking player."
Porter will be the fourth player from Texas to join the Bulldogs within the past two years, joining Sharae Chalmers and Tory Jacobs of Irving, and Raven Johnson of Dallas.
