FRESNO, Calif. - The ?Fresno State Winemaster's Weekend? will be held March 7 and 8 at the Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite as the Four-Diamond resort and California State University, Fresno again team up to blend award-winning wines and gourmet food with the splendor of the Sierra Nevada.
The event features Kenneth Fugelsang, Fresno State's world-renown winemaster, and Frederick Clabaugh, Tenaya executive chef, in a partnership that began last year with the successful ?Toast of the Sierra? dinner series featuring Fresno State wine and agricultural products.
This year a wine-tasting seminar led by Fugelsang and a cooking demonstration by Clabaugh has been added for Saturday afternoon as well as a more personal ?meet and greet? with Fugelsang on Friday night.
?The wine-tasting seminar was created in part because of the consumers desire to become more knowledgeable on food and wine pairing,? Fugelsang said. ?It also shows the winery's appreciation for the tremendous level of commitment of community shown to the program over the years.?
The highlight of the event is a five-course gourmet dinner on Saturday, March 8 featuring food products from Fresno State's College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, planned and prepared by Clabaugh.
Roland Henin, master chef and corporate chef for Delaware North Parks & Resorts, the worldwide parent company of the Tenaya Lodge, will present an overview of the meal as it is served.
Each course will be paired with wines, hand-crafted by viticulture and enology students at Fresno State's award-winning winery, accompanied by an overview of the wines and the winemaking style presented by Fugelsang.
Saturday's event will begin with a ?Welcome Reception? at 6:30 p.m. followed by the dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets for the dinner only are $85 per person.? Tenaya Lodge has created a special offer that includes two dinner tickets and a Saturday night stay for $289.
On Friday night, a special package featuring a more personal ?meet and greet' with Fugelsang will be available at the stone fireplace in the lodge lobby.
For $99, this add-on package includes complementary chair massages upon arrival Friday.
It also includes an invitation for two to attend the exclusive wine-tasting seminar led by Fugelsang and a cooking demonstration by Clabaugh on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m.
Fugelsang said that as home to the only commercial winery on a university campus in the United States, Fresno State's unique status is a natural match for the unparalleled splendor of the Sierra Nevada setting of the world-class Tenaya Lodge.
Agricultural students at Fresno State significantly participate in the production of wine, dairy, beef, lamb, pork, fruits, vegetables, and processed products as part of their education.
?As one of the most technologically advanced wineries in the Central Valley, Fresno State has taken a leadership position on researching production methods that will create quality wines from the grape-growing regions throughout the valley,? Fugelsang said.? ?The result is award-winning wines that can be proudly served by a Four-Diamond resort property such as the Tenaya Lodge.?
