FRESNO, Calif.- Four Fresno State student-athletes were recently nominated for the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference to be held May 25-29, 2003 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The four nominees are Chantea Fleming (Chino Hills, Calif.), Jamal Jones (Oakland, Calif.), Taylor Mason (Pine Grove, Calif.), and James Medeiros (Fremont, Calif.).
The 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference, "Today's Student-Athletes, Tomorrow's Leaders," is an extension of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program and includes up to 300 student-athletes representing their schools. A selection committee will choose one of the four student-athletes to attend the conference at a later date.
"This is a great experience where student-athletes from all over the country hear top-notch speakers and hone their leadership skills," said assistant athletics director of academic services Linda Gannaway. "Students make a commitment to coordinate a service project when they return to their respective campuses, so lots of people benefit from their participation."
Fleming has played 16 games this year as a reserve for the women's basketball squad that has raced out to a 16-10 start. The sophomore is a 2002 Fresno State Scholar Athlete and 2001 Herb Young Memorial Award winner.
