COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The National Strength and Conditioning Association named senior Curt Posey of men's soccer, junior Mary-tyler Wahl of women's soccer and sophomore Bryce McGill of football, NSCA All-Americans.
As a defender for the men's soccer team for three seasons, Posey was named to the Verizon Academic All-American District VIII team, was a two-time Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team member and made the Dean's List seven times, while making 40 starts in 42 matches.
"Curt is one of the strongest, hard working and most dedicated athletes at Fresno State," said strength and conditioning coach Erik Traeger. "He holds all of the strength records for the team."
Mary-tyler Wahl has been the starting goalkeeper for the past two seasons with the women's soccer team. She has recorded over 70 saves within those two seasons, while recording a goals against average of 1.63, the second best in school history. In addition to tallying nine career shutouts and 153 saves - again the second most in school history, Wahl is a three-time Fresno State scholar-athlete and three-time Dean's List member.
"Mary-tyler is one of those people who do not know the meaning of 'I can't' or 'It's too hard', said strength and conditioning coach Ed Nordenschild. "She is one of the hardest working athletes at Fresno State, being a leader both in the weight room and on the field."
As a sophomore safety with the football team, McGill was named as a 2001 Western Athletic Conference Honorable Mention and WAC Player of the Week. In addition, he finished second on the team in tackles with 85, adding to his 155 tackles over the last two seasons, had four sacks and was tied for the team lead with four interceptions in 2001.
"Bryce has consistently been a leader on this team since he stepped onto this campus," said strength and conditioning coach Rich Tucker. "He, along with his strong work ethic, are two of the reasons Fresno State has risen into the top 20 of Division I football."
In its 19th year, the NSCA All-American Athlete award program recognized 184 athletes from 84 colleges and universities in 19 competitive sports from across the nation. The 2002 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes are recognized for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvement and leadership qualities.
