Tickets Remain for Fresno State's 25 Greatest Athletes Gala

FRESNO, Calif. - Less than 100 tickets remain for Fresno State's 25 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century Gala, which will be held at the World Sports Caf? Sunday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the gala are $125 and can be purchased at the World Sports Caf? or by calling 650-4949.
Athletes who have committed to attend the gala include: Stephen Abas, Laura Berg, Ron Cox, Trent Dilfer, Doug Fraley, John Hoover, Rod Higgins, Ruth Lawanson, Wendy Martell, Dale Messer, Lorenzo Neal, Amanda Scott, Kevin Sweeney and Wende Ward.
The gala will include a video presentation on each of the athletes, plus a sports auction and special celebrity guest speaker.
Several former Bulldogs will not be able to attend due to professional sports obligations, but will have a representative at the gala to receive their award. Among those currently playing or coaching professionally and unable to attend are Courtney Alexander, Ron Anderson, Henry Ellard, Tom Goodwin, Bobby Jones and Bernard Thompson. In addition, former world record pole vaulter Dutch Warmerdam will be unable to attend and will be represented by his son, Gregory. Former track and field standout Walter Marty is the only deceased member of the top 25.
All proceeds from the gala will benefit fifth-year scholarships for the Fresno State athletics department.
The Fresno State athletics department, in conjunction with corporate partners KFSN ABC 30, ESPN Radio 1430, St. Agnes Hospital, The World Sports Cafe and NAPA Auto Parts, asked Bulldog fans to select their 25 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century. Balloting concluded on Feb. 25 and the 25 Greatest Athletes were chosen.
Fans were able to vote at athletics venues, at sponsor locations and on-line on Fresno State's official athletics web site, www.gobulldogs.com.
