Dog Talk Live Set For May 6

April 13, 2000
FRESNO, Calif. - During the Spring of 1999 a group of younger folks primarily in their 30's were assembled to form the Bulldog Athletic Advocates. The purpose of this group is to act as spokespeople to Fresno State and the Athletics Department on behalf of the younger fan base.
After numerous meetings over the past 12 months where the group listened and shared concerns about Fresno State athletics, it was discovered that many people in the community, both young and old, have limited knowledge of what it takes to be a major player in national intercollegiate athletics.
That is why on Saturday, May 6, 2000, The Bulldog Foundation and the Fresno State Athletics Department are sponsoring, FREE of charge, an unprecedented conference on the state of Fresno State Athletics. "DOG TALK LIVE" will begin at 10:00 A.M. and end by 12:30 P.M. in the softball stadium. As a special thanks to those attending this momentous event, they will be offered a FREE ticket to the Bulldog Baseball game starting at 1:00 P.M. that same day.
The program will be an interactive discussion featuring a panel of University President John Welty, Athletic Director Al Bohl, University Vice President Peter Smits, Assistant Football Coach John Baxter (Coach Pat Hill has a previous commitment), Men's Basketball Coach Jerry Tarkanian, Softball Coach Margie Wright, Women's Basketball Coach Britt King, plus student athletes Amanda Scott and Bernard Berrian.
As participants enter the event, they will be given a handout outlining bullets of information regarding the athletics program. The handout will be both educational and helpful in developing questions from the audience. Questions sure to be discussed will include the future vision for the athletic program, big time scheduling, the Save Mart Center, conference affiliation, and recruiting.
"DOG TALK LIVE" is focusing on (but not limiting to) the "30-something" age group. "DOG TALK LIVE" is not a fund-raiser or membership drive...but rather an interactive opportunity to get up closer and more personal with Fresno State Bulldog athletics. "DOG TALK LIVE" will also provide attendees with the chance to voice their own concerns and hear the answers to their questions straight from coaches, university and athletic administrators, and student athletes. The Fresno State WAC Champion Softball team will also be performing some special "off-the-field" entertainment.
