Two Student-Athletes Selected to Attend NCAA Conference

FRESNO, Calif. - Sarah Woodward (So., Fresno, Calif.) and Simon Tafoya (Jr., Pittsburg, Calif.) are among the 353 student-athletes nationwide selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference.
Woodward is a member of the equestrian team and is the leading English rider in the region. She will attend the IHSA National Finals in Macon, Ga. May 12-14 as the regions Cacchione rider. In 1998 Tafoya, a member of the baseball team, was the Bulldogs' primary power threat as he hit 16 home runs with 47 RBIs. This year Tafoya is back on the baseball field after overcoming Hodgkin's disease a severe hamstring injury last season.
The student-athletes were selected from a total of 885 nominations from NCAA member institutions that participate in CHAMPS/ Life Skills Program. The conference will be held May 28 through June 1, 2000 at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and communities.
Last year, football player Payton Williams, was selected to participate in the conference.
