FRESNO, Calif. - With two weeks remaining, 52 percent of the 2004 Bulldog Foundation Fund Drive Scholarship goal has been reached. The final two weeks should see brisk activity, as more than 100 volunteers have yet to turned in reports.
To date, the fund drive is slightly behind last year's pace at this same time. Each of the volunteers on "The Team Behind The Teams" are asked to be at next Thursday's Report Night, which is from 5-7 p.m. at the University Foundation Building on Chestnut and Shaw behind Jack-in-Box.
"We sincerely appreciate the hard work and dedication of the BDF Fund Drive Volunteers," said Athletics Director Scott Johnson. "We are hopeful that we can achieve our goal and be able to fully the scholarships for more than 400 student-athletes who are on athletics aid."
A total 26 of 258 volunteers have made the $500 in new money qualifier for a Hawaiian trip. Ten more were added this week: Sid Cox, Keith/Karen Kramer, Vernon/Margaret Moore, Abe Paregian, Sharlene Gomes, Ron Metzler, Ron Worley, Doug Scheidt, Louise Deniz and Lisa Nesgis.
Al Deniz has taken the lead both the new money and new members with 12. Individual volunteers are eligible for only one trip. The runner-up in the "new money" category will be awarded a trip in case one player tops both "new money" and "new member" categories.
Fifteen new football family plans were reported, but plenty are still available.
Bob Soligian was the top producer for the third week. Al Deniz brought in the most new dollars raised. There was no Rookie of the Week award given.
Family Value Plans for the 2004 Bulldog Football season are available through BDF Volunteers New memberships are also being solicited by the BDF volunteers.
Each Thursday, the Bulldog Foundation Volunteers will turn in their reports. BDF volunteers are competing for prizes, including three trips to Hawaii. The fund drive will continue over the next two weeks.
Funds from the Bulldog Foundation are allocated to cover scholarship needs for Bulldog student-athletes. The BDF has been nationally renowned for its fund-raising campaign as the top volunteer fund raising group in the nation for 17 consecutive years and has been raising over $7 million annually.
