FRESNO, Calif. - For the 17th consecutive year, The Bulldog Foundation has led the nation in fundraising while using volunteers exclusively. Over 300 Bulldog Foundation "players" have completed the 2002 five-week fund drive by signing up 5,530 members. Volunteers were successful in reporting pledges from 494 new members.
The mission of The Bulldog Foundation (BDF) is to raise 100 percent of the annual funding for Fresno State student-athlete scholarships and athletics recruiting. Over 16,000 students have been assisted with donations in the 52-year history of the BDF. Membership ticket revenue and donations account for almost 40 percent of the entire Fresno State athletics budget.
As of May 24, $7,250,605 has been pledged, the highest total ever. With the additional memberships that will be taken out before the 2002 football season, the BDF will surpass its fund drive goal of $7.3 million. Lee Lockhart served as the 2002 fund drive chairman. Dick Wetnight is the 2002 BDF president.
