Red Wave,
Last week we had 77 student-athletes receive their degrees at graduation. We are extremely proud of them and our entire student-athlete population as our recent academic success has been tremendous.
Since the start of 2016 we have been able to parallel the academic success with success on the field. Baseball just wrapped up our first Mountain West regular-season championship, softball completed what was an exciting season where they dominated competition for a second-straight MW title. We became the first Mountain West school in 14 seasons to win both the baseball and softball regular season championships in the same year. Add in our men's basketball championship, women's basketball reaching the postseason in the WNIT and our many individual conference champions and that is the make-up for one highly successful spring semester.
This is where we want to be as a department, where our academic and athletic success is at the highest level. Our mission, driven by President Castro, is to have academics and athletics rise together and there is no doubt that is happening at Fresno State. This is such an exciting time to be at this University and to be a Bulldog.
Looking ahead, our summer focus will be on preparing to continue our spring success this coming fall.
Phase I of the Bulldog Stadium renovation is underway with new fencing and branding starting to go up around the facility this week. It is our hope that with the support from the Red Wave, that at the end of the 2016 season we can begin the major work on the stadium renovation.
In order for us to make that happen and improve our facility for every fan who attends a game, it is imperative we receive strong support this coming fall for our football team. With the staff Tim DeRuyter has put together and a growing team, I'm eager to see them back in action on the gridiron come August. We have plenty of ticketing options to help meet your needs and desires and most importantly busy schedules our fans have. From mini plans, to family plans to season tickets to alumni and student tickets, give our ticketing office a call at 559-278-3647 to see how we can best serve your needs.
Keeping on the football subject, we have set two additional kick times for the coming fall. Our Sept. 10 home opener against Sacramento State will kick off at 7 p.m. and the Nov. 19 game against Hawai`i will kick off at 4 p.m.
Once again, from all of us here with Fresno State Athletics we thank you for your continued support.
Go `Dogs!
