FRESNO, Calif. - On behalf of Governor Grey Davis, a number of outstanding Fresno State student-athletes have been invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and reading to elementary students at the READ California campaign at Robinson Park on Thursday from 10-11 am.
The READ California campaign promotes the importance of reading among California children. It features the Readapalooza Too statewide tour, the California Page Flippers Kids Advisory Council, community and corporate outreach.
Among the student-athletes that will be attending are Lindsay Logan, Roosevelt Cook, Laurel Frisinger, Jennifer Brown, Jessica Klenner, Patrick Fanene and Chris Jefferies. Logan is a member of the woman's basketball team. She is a sophomore guard from Sandy, Utah, and is considered one of the WAC's top players after garnering first- team All-WAC honors last season. Cook, a junior member of the men's track and field team, is an academic all-star and most valuable player from Ontario, Calif.
Frisinger, Brown and Klenner are all members of the women's swimming team. Frisinger is a native of Napa, Calif., and a senior captain who has been named Academic All-WAC. Brown is a senior originally from West Hills, Calif., and swam four lifetime bests at the WAC Championships last year. Klenner is a sophomore from Mission Viejo, Calif., and had three lifetime best swims at WAC Championships. She aspires to become a teacher.
Fanene is a member of the football team and a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif. He has been named Academic All-WAC and has added weight and strength to the Bulldogs line. Jefferies is a sophomore member of the men's basketball team. He returned to his hometown to play with the Bulldogs after one season at the University of Arkansas.
Participation in this event will provide an opportunity for elementary school-aged children to hear from inspiring and dynamic role models, such as the Fresno State student-athletes who will be in attendance.
