FRESNO, Calif. - The USA Women's Softball National Team brings a 33-0 record into tonight's doubleheader in Sacramento but the upcoming talent taking the field on July 23 at Bulldog Diamond will be showcased in an all-star game that will now feature a local flair.
In what was originally scheduled to field the ASA 12-Under all-star game preceding the 3:00 p.m. match up between the national team and the Women's Pro Softball League's Florida Wahoos, Bulldog Diamond will now be the site of the ASA 18-Gold rivalry between the Clovis Rockets and the Panthers Gold from Southern California.
Picking up their berth for the 18-Gold Nationals in St. Louis next month, the Clovis Rockets feature Fresno State bound Jamie Southern and Pam Perez along with Holly Pacini (Buchanan) and Brooke Brooke Bennet (Clovis). Based out of Sylmar, Calif., the Panthers boast all-state catcher Elizabeth Pierce (Buchanan).
On a statewide recruiting blitz, the California Highway Patrol also will be represented at Bulldog Diamond. Showcasing their latest patrol car and motorcycle, representatives will be on hand to discuss a law enforcement career. The CHP mascot "Chipper" will throw out the first pitch before the 18-Gold game. In addition, the Fresno Office of the highway patrol bought 80 tickets for the tour stop and will donate those to non-profit organizations in the area.
Tickets for the "Central Park to Sydney" national tour are available through game day at the Bulldog Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone or in person. The portable ticket office at Bulldog Diamond will open on site at 10:15 a.m. and gates will open at 10:30 a.m.
An autograph session will follow the single game between the U.S. Women's Softball National Team and the Florida Wahoos.
Suiting up for USA is Fresno State's current assistant coach and a Bulldog four-time All-American Laura Berg. In the other dugout will be sister Randi, the 1999 WPSL Defensive Player of the Year, along with another pair of former Bulldog All-America standouts in Nina Lindenberg and Kim Maher.
