FRESNO, Calif. - Scott: NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient
Four-time first team NCAA All-American and two-time GTE Academic All-American Amanda Scott picked another award, this time a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Having been selected as the WAC's top female athlete of the year (Joe Kearney Award) just last month for the second time in her career, Scott became the university's tenth NCAA Postgraduate Award winner and the second Fresno State softball player to be a postgraduate recipient. Recipient of a $5,000 scholarship for postgraduate study at the university or professional school of choice, Scott joins former Bulldogs Henry Corda, Dwayne Westphal, William Griever, Jr. (football), Roger George (track), Wendy Martell (basketball), Tommy Minor (baseball), Robyn Yorke (softball), Dora Djilianova (tennis) and Price (track & field) as NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award winners.
In 1964, the NCAA created a postgraduate scholarship program honoring outstanding student-athletes from member institutions who also are outstanding scholars. The NCAA awards 174 scholarships each year to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically, and are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Criteria for nomination include: a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00, enrolled in school in final year of competition, performed with distinction as a member of a varsity sport, intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time graduate student, and behaved both on and off the field with dignity. There are 35 scholarships awarded for football players, 32 scholarships for basketball players (16 each for men and women), and 107 scholarships (36 for men and 71 for women) for participants in sports other than football and basketball in which the NCAA conducts national championship competition. The NCAA postgraduate scholarships are one-time grants and are not renewable. ************************************************************************************************
Diboll: Excellence behind the Scenes
As an assistant athletic director for marketing at Fresno State, Deena Diboll was singled out nationally for excellence in her field recently. Honored by her professional peers, Diboll was presented with the NACMA "Outstanding Individual Achievement Award" by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). In her 18th year at Fresno State, Diboll is only the fourth individual to be presented with this distinguished award. The national award recognizes the individual's achievement in, and contributions to, the field of collegiate athletic marketing. It is second only to the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Bernie Mullen, senior vice president of team marketing and business operations for the NBA. A founding member who has held each of the one-year officer positions, Diboll was one of a small group of marketing administrators who wanted to develop and organize NACMA to serve as an educational forum and networking opportunity for individuals working in or closely with collegiate athletic marketing programs. In charge of the national conference in 1995-96, Diboll served as NACMA president in 1996-97 and was a board member until 1997. The organization serves more than 500 professionals from around the country in the field of collegiate athletic marketing.
