Splitting preseason honors with SMU, Fresno State finished first and second in the women's and men's preseason polls, respectively. The women's squad edged traditional favorite and last years co-champion SMU by one vote for the top-preseason honor, while the men's squad finished five points behind the Mustangs for second place.
1999 Preseason Womens Soccer Coaches Poll (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team) - 1. Fresno State (2 first-place votes) 30, 2. SMU (2) 29, 3. San Jose State (2) 28, 4. UTEP (1) 21, 5. TCU 14, 6. Tulsa 13, 7. Hawai'i 12.
1999 Preseason Mens Soccer Coaches Poll (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team) - 1. SMU (5 first-place votes) 25, 2. Fresno State (1) 20, 3. San Jose State 17, 4. Tulsa 14, 5. TCU 8, 6. Drury 6.
The women's squad will open their season 7 p.m. Friday night when they take on Stanford at New Maloney Field in Palo Alto, while the men will see their first action when the take on their alumni squad Saturday in Bulldog Stadium at 7 p.m.
