FRESNO, Calif. - The tragic events in New York City and Washington D.C. have caused the following changes to the Fresno State Athletics Department schedules for this weekend. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
Football: The Fresno State vs. Utah State game will be played as scheduled. Utah State has a chartered flight scheduled and is preparing to come to Fresno on Friday afternoon for the game. Less than 500 tickets remain for that game.
Volleyball: The University of San Diego has cancelled the San Diego Invitational.
Women's Soccer: The Bulldogs have cancelled their trip to Auburn and Georgia.
Men's Soccer: Fresno State's game with Gonzaga (Sept. 14) has been cancelled. The game Sept. 16 against Portland will be played as scheduled.
Men's and Women's Cross Country: The 37th Annual Fresno State Invitational will be run Saturday at Woodward Park beginning at 9 a.m.
Statement from Interim Athletics Director Scott Johnson: "We believe the spirit of college athletics and the participation of young people will be an important component in the healing process of this great national tragedy. Our first concern is for the safety of our student-athletes, our coaches and fans. There will be procedures put in place to address the security for travel and game management at events. To honor the memory of those who were lost, I believe it is in the best interest for Fresno State to follow President Bush's advice for a return to normalcy and a resumption of the American way of life."
