FRESNO, Calif. - As the Fresno State football team prepares for its home opener Sept. 23, the university's athletics department is working with the city of Fresno to decorate the athletics facilities.
The two parties will be hanging two styles of banners on street poles around campus beginning Saturday. One of the banners will honor Fresno as an All-America City. The other banner will have the Fresno State Bulldog logo and the phrase "Pride of the Valley" to commemorate the commitment of being the Valley's school.
"This is really going to be a wonderful addition to our athletics facilities," said Fresno State Athletics Director Al Bohl. "These are classy banners. This is a great way to show the pride we have in this great All-America City in which we live and our All-America University in which we educate so many people from the Central Valley."
The Fresno State campus serves over 18,000 full-time students.
"Great universities help create great cities and Fresno State has been so important in Fresno's achievement of All-America City honors," said Mayor Jim Patterson "It is appropriate that we celebrate with these banners, for they are symbols of our lasting and significant relationship."
The Bulldogs will kickoff the 2000 home schedule against the Cal Bears on Sept. 23 at Bulldog Stadium at 7:15 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net. Tickets are available at the Bulldog Ticket Office, by phoning (559) 278-DOGS or online at www.gobulldogs.com.
