FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State Athletics Director Scott Johnson has announced the hiring of Kelli Eberlein as Head Women's Athletic Trainer. Eberlein is expected to join the Bulldog staff on Friday, Oct. 3.
Eberlein fills a position that had previously been occupied by Katie Sweeney, who accepted a similar role at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., earlier this summer.
"We are very excited to have Kelli join our staff," said Miguel Rueda, Interim Director of Sports Medicine. "She brings a tremendous amount of experience to our staff and should be a great fit for our program."
Eberlein comes to Fresno State after serving as assistant athletic trainer at Oregon State for the previous five years. During her time at Oregon State, Eberlein was responsible for the care and prevention of injuries for women's basketball, softball and women's soccer. She also served as a clinical coordinator and was involved in the organization of athletic department summer camp coverage.
Prior to her appointment as assistant athletic trainer, she served as a doctoral graduate assistant from 1997-1998 at OSU where she was mainly involved with women's soccer. Eberlein also worked with the XCEL Orthopedic Physical Therapy Clinic as a physical therapy aide from 1996-1997.
Eberlein earned her bachelor of science degree from Fresno State in physical education/athletic training in 1993. During her two years as a student athletic trainer with the Bulldogs, Eberlein worked specifically with football and track and field.
Having served as a graduate assistant at Cal State Bakersfield in which she earned her master of arts degree in 1996, Eberlein was responsible for providing athletic training services for 10 men's and women's programs. She also supervised the training room and assisted staff trainers with certified athletic trainer coverage for all sports.
Eberlein is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), American Red Cross and is certified in First Aid and CPR.
A licensed athletic trainer, her duties at Fresno State will include the responsibility for the Bulldog volleyball program while overseeing treatment, rehabilitation and evaluation of student-athletes for all other women's sports.
