Fresno State Student-Athletes Giving Back

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State student-athletes have a full schedule on their hands when it comes to school, practice, competition and travel.
They also know that being a Fresno State Bulldog means giving back to the community which supports them in their academic and athletic endeavors.
Several Bulldog athletic teams such as softball, track, golf and men?s basketball will be participating in the "Walk to Cure Diabetes" at Woodward Park this Saturday, Oct. 9. The two-mile and six-mile walk begins at 9:00 am at the River View Shelter.
Both from the Communications Department at Fresno State, co-chairs Dr. Vince Bloom, who is the chair of the Athletic Advisory Council, and his wife Dr. Melanie Bloom are spearheading the event for Fresno State.
Next weekend, six Bulldog teams will work in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus for the Special Olympics fund raiser in Fresno. Representatives from women?s soccer, swimming and diving, wrestling, baseball, men?s and women?s track, and men?s basketball will participate in the event that runs Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16. This is the third year that Fresno State student-athletes have helped out with fundraising for the Special Olympics.

NOTE: Fresno State head softball coach Margie Wright will be inducted into the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center. Wright will join other Fresno sports legends Bernice Amaral (softball ? Fresno Rockets coach), Henry Ellard (NFL), Rex Hudler (MLB), and Erv Hunt (track and field). In addition, Larry Shehady, CEO of Producers Dairy Food, Inc., will receive a special recognition award. A no-host social begins at 6:00 pm with a parade of former inductees (195 men and 14 women), dinner and award ceremonies which will include a pictorial history of each inductee to follow.
