Bob Shook is in his first year as an academics advisor with the Student-Athlete Support Services Department at Fresno State.
Shook comes to Fresno State from Sacramento State, where for eight years he served as an assistant head football coach. With the Hornets, he also helped direct study table, followed each student-athlete's academic progress, monitored degree progress and taught an athletics theory class. He also worked closely with the department's compliance officer and developed strategies for educating coaches on changes in NCAA policies.
Shook is no stranger to the Bulldogs. Before taking his position at Sacramento State, he was the Assistant Director of Fresno State's Athletics Academic Services. Prior to that, he was an educational advisor and counselor at Fresno City College from 1988-93. While at FCC, Shook also served as an assistant football coach.
He has also held employment as a guidance counselor at Grandview (Wash.) High School from 1984-88. In addition, Shook has been associated with football at many levels, holding the head coaching duties at Grandview from 1984-88 and at Colfax (Wash.) High School from 1982-83. He has also been an assistant coach at Walla Walla (Wash.) Community College, Polytechnic (Mexico City, Mexico) University, San Jacinto (Calif.) College, the University of San Diego, Santa Cruz High School and UC Riverside.
Shook received his B.A. in sociology from UC Riverside in 1971. He then received M.A. degrees in education from Washington State in 1980 and physical education from Eastern Washington in 1982.
A native of San Diego, Shook and his wife Jane reside in Fresno.
