Washington Postgame Notes
Pregame
• Team Captains: Malik Forrester, Aaron Mitchell, Kyle RIddering, Nathan Madsen
• Washington won the coin toss and elected to defer.
First Quarter
• Tank Kelly received his first start of the season and second career start (Oct. 22 at Utah State).
• Tank Kelly was the first change to the Bulldogs starting lineup this season, on both sides of the ball.
• The last game an opponent scored as many points in the opening frame, 27-0 UW, was at Ole Miss on Sept. 12, 2015 when the Rebels led 28-0 after 15 minutes.
• Fresno State had more penalties in first quarter (2) than in its entire game at Alabama (1).
• The Bulldogs had five first downs in the first quarter, but was 0-of-4 on third downs.
• Fresno State surrendered its second turnover of the season when Chason Virgil threw an interception at the 7:19 mark. It was Virgil’s second INT of the season and the fifth INT recorded by Washington in 2017 – the Huskies increased the score to 20-0 on the next play on 1st-and-goal from the 7-yard line.
• Washington scored three TD's in the first eight minutes.
• UW increased the score to 27-0 when Dante Pettis returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown. It was an NCAA record eighth TD return for a score in his career and it was his third-straight game with a punt return TD for Pettis.
• Last time the Bulldogs gave up a punt return for a TD was on Nov. 28, 2015 – Joe Hansley, Colorado State.
• Jimmy Camacho missed his first kick of the season, a 48-yard attempt, with 0:46 left in the first quarter.
Second Quarter
• Fresno State forced UW to punt the ball for the first time with 6:46 left in the first half after scoring on its first five possessions.
• Chason Virgil tossed his third TD of the season, a 6-yard pass to Da’Mari Scott. It was Scott’s first touchdown reception since scoring a pair against Hawai’i on Nov. 14, 2015.
HALFTIME
• Fresno State did not give up 41 points in one half in 2016.
• Mike Bell led Fresno State with five tackles in the first half.
• Washington outgained Fresno State 282 to 151 in the first half.
Third Quarter
• Marcus McMaryion opened the second half as the Bulldogs’ quarterback. He has seen action in all three games of the season.
• Jeffrey Allison forced a fumble (his first force career), which was recovered by George Helmuth (his third career recovery).
• Jimmy Camacho converted his first field goal of the game (29 yards), fourth of the season, and sixth career with 10:43 remaining in the third.
• George Helmuth forced his first career fumble with his first career sack to give the Bulldogs’ possession at UW 40-yard line with 7:18 left in the third.
• Jimmy Camacho registered his second field of the game, a 34-yard, to pull the score to 48-13 with 4:28 left in the third.
• A 15-yard facemask against Ronnie Rivers put the Bulldogs in Washington territory for the third-straight drive (UW48).
• Fresno State produced six points off turnovers with back-to-back in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
• Three-straight possessions starting in Washington territory ended with a Jimmy Camacho field. His third field goal of the game was from 31 yards out, making him 3-of-4 on the evening, with 11:38 left in the game.
• Fresno State converted three field goals in one game once in 2016 – at Nevada on Oct. 8.
• Jackson Finch was disqualified from the game with under 10:00 remaining in the game for targeting. He will miss the first half of the Bulldogs’ next contest.
